Job Summary
This is a paid position.
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Dance Instructor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in various dance styles and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. The Dance Instructor will be responsible for teaching dance classes to students of all ages and skill levels, helping them develop their technique, creativity, and love for dance.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging dance lessons in various styles (e.g., ballet, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, etc.) for students of different ages and skill levels.
- Demonstrate proper dance techniques and movements, ensuring students understand and can replicate them.
- Develop and implement a structured curriculum that aligns with the goals of the dance program and meets the needs of students.
- Create lesson plans that incorporate warm-ups, skill development, choreography, and cool-downs.
- Evaluate students’ progress and provide constructive feedback to help them improve their skills.
- Conduct assessments and provide recommendations for further development or advanced classes.
- Maintain a positive and respectful classroom environment that encourages student participation and creativity.
- Manage classroom behavior and ensure a safe and supportive atmosphere for all students.
- Organize and prepare students for recitals, competitions, and other performance opportunities.
- Coordinate rehearsals and ensure students are well-prepared for performances.
- Create original choreography for performances, competitions, and showcases.
- Participate in staff meetings and contribute to the overall growth of the dance program.
- Assist with administrative tasks related to class scheduling, student registration, and record-keeping.
- Promote dance classes and events through social media and community outreach.
- Communicate effectively with students and their parents regarding class expectations, progress, and any concerns.
- Foster strong relationships with students to encourage their growth and development in dance.
Qualifcations
- Proven experience as a dance instructor or in a similar role.
- Strong proficiency in one or more dance styles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire students.
- Certification in dance instruction or related field is a plus.
- Experience with theatrical choreography is a plus.

Responsibilities
- Determining student goals and objectives, and discussing lesson details with them.
- Structuring individual lessons based on client preferences and goals.
- Providing students with appropriate materials and resources.
- Showing up on time for scheduled practice sessions, recitals, competitions, and other events.
- Teaching music theory, helping students sharpen their sight-reading, memorization, improvising techniques, or other student-defined goals.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in music, music education, or related field.
- Availability to teach at least 8 hours per week; two evenings a week minimum, but more preferred; core hours 4pm to 8pm.
- Strong musical ability, as well as proven skills with your instrument.
- Previous experience as a music teacher preferred.
- Strong motivational skills.
Nice to have
- Previous experience as a music teacher preferred.
- Fluent sight-reading.
- Patience, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to teach online/virtual lessons.
